In a surprising twist to the Doroth Bakery burglary reported on July 5, authorities have confirmed a second incident involving the same suspect. Early Sunday morning, another local bakery, Sweet Indulgence, was targeted, with the burglar making off with hundreds of dollars' worth of pastries and desserts. Both incidents share a similar modus operandi, leading investigators to believe they are the work of the same individual, dubbed the 'Cupcake Crook' by the community.
Local police have ramped up their search efforts and are reviewing surveillance footage from both bakeries. Officers believe the suspect is familiar with the bakeries' operations, as both break-ins occurred just before closing time, and specific items were seemingly chosen for their ease of transport.
"We are urging the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, especially during late-night hours. The person we are looking for is clearly targeting local businesses, and we want to catch them before more bakeries fall victim," said Officer Linda Evans.
In response to the recent thefts, bakery owners are taking extra precautions. Doroth Bakery has installed additional security measures, including motion-sensor lights and a new camera system. Owner Tom McDonald expressed his frustration but also his determination to keep the community's spirits high. "We will not let this thief ruin our business. We’re more focused on spreading joy through our baked goods than letting fear take over," he stated.
Local residents have organized a small community watch and are showing their support by visiting the bakeries more frequently. "It’s about solidarity. We love our bakeries, and we want to ensure they feel safe and supported," said frequent customer Sarah Reynolds.
As the investigation continues, police are asking anyone with information to come forward. The community remains hopeful that the 'Cupcake Crook' will soon be caught, allowing the sweet scent of baked goods to return without the fear of theft.
